South Sudan Farmers' Union on Tuesday elected a new chairman of the union during a general assembly meeting held at the premises of the national ministry of agriculture in Juba.

The farmers elected Thuch Akol Akol as the new chairman.

Following his election, Thuch said: “We want to implement our plans as farmers. We want a farmers’ bank to be registered by the government of South Sudan.”

He vowed to fight against hunger in South Sudan through agriculture, while urging the government to support all farmers instead of disturbing tractors to government institutions.
