On Wednesday afternoon, Kenyan authorities announced three more confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total number of cases to seven.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, South Sudan’s Ambassador to Kenya Chol Ajongo Mawut has called on South Sudanese citizens in Kenya to remain on alert, while urging them to avoid crowded areas – such as clubs, public transport and supermarkets – to prevent catching coronavirus.

“I am urging our people here in Kenya to follow warnings and statements by the Kenyan government and stay away from crowds,” he said.

He added,” People should also know that the embassy cannot pay for medical expenses if a South Sudanese national is infected. So, we appeal to our people to follow the health instructions.”

The first coronavirus case was recorded in Nairobi last week. On Sunday Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta announced two more cases and unveiled measures to stop the spread of the virus.

The president suspended learning at all levels and announced a nationwide partial lockdown. He encouraged businesses and government offices to close non-essential services.

Globally, the virus has infected 184,976 people and killed more than 7,500, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
