South Sudan, Egypt discuss educational cooperation

South Sudan's Ambassador in Cairo Anthony Kon met Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education Ahmed Abel-Khaliq on Wednesday.

The two discussed educational cooperation between the two counties and a request by the Alexandria University to open up a branch in Tonj town in Warrap, besides another branch in the capital Juba.

In a press statement on Thursday, the Egyptian government confirmed its commitment to support educational cooperation with South Sudan.

“The ministry will facilitate the education for South Sudanese students in Egypt’s higher learning institutions by removing all obstacles facing the process,” reads the press statement.

The two ministers also discussed ways to allow South Sudanese students to stay in dormitories during holidays instead of travelling to South Sudan.
