South Sudan defeats Djibouti, enters 2019 AFCON qualifiers group stages

The Bright Stars of South Sudan defeated Djibouti 6-0 in the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers play-off at Juba Stadium on Tuesday, overturning an earlier 2-0 defeat.

The Bright Stars of South Sudan defeated Djibouti 6-0 in the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers play-off at Juba Stadium on Tuesday, overturning an earlier 2-0 defeat.

The South Sudanese team was ahead after 11 minutes and later scored three more goals before the break with two goals from James Joseph while Robert Duku and Dominic Abui scored one goal each.

There were two other goals after the break from Ater Thomas and Khamis Leon. The game ended 6-0 (6-2 on aggregate) for South Sudan as they confirmed their entry into the AFCON 2017 group stages of the qualifiers which are set to start in June this year.

The Bright Stars now joins Mali, Gabon and Burundi in Group C of the Qualifiers to reach Cameroon in 2019.
