South Sudan confirms 18 new COVID-19 cases

South Sudan's National Ministry of Health on Saturday confirmed 18 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections to 1,882.

Dr. Richard Laku, the COVID-19 Incident Manager, said two more patients have also died of the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the toll related to the virus to 34.

He further said South Sudan has so far recorded 122 recoveries from COVID-19. The health official said two patients who are severely ill are receiving treatment at the Dr. Garang Infectious Diseases Unit.

Dr. Richard says the National Ministry of Health is following up 1,322 contacts of the confirmed case. He further said 2,949 contacts have so far completed their mandatory 14-day follow up.

The health official appeals to the public to follow government guidelines to curb the spread of the disease.
