South Sudan civil society groups preach peace in Uganda

The Network of South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations in Uganda (NoSSCOU) conducted on Friday a peace dissemination workshop at Kiryandongo refugee settlement in Uganda.

 The one-day event, the civil society group said, aimed at explaining the content of the peace agreement.

 “The overall objective of the workshop was to educate youth, women, religious, community leaders and the host community on the R-ARCSS [Revitalized Agreement on Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan] 2018, so that if they properly understand it, they can own it,” Ter Manyang, a member of NoSSCOU, said in a statement.  

Disseminating the peace agreement, he added, is regarded as a platform for advocacy and policy reform to influence laws that govern and guide government’s actions on conflict management.

About 60 youth, women, religious and camp leaders attended the workshop.

NoSSCOU currently comprises of more than 62 South Sudanese civil society organizations working in Uganda.

In September last year, the South Sudanese arch-foes signed a revitalized peace agreement, aimed at ending the devastating civil war that that killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions.
