South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir sacked the governor of Central Bank, Othom Rago Ajak, amid rising inflation and a biting economic crisis.
Kiir gave no reason for the sacking of Rago who was appointed in January 2017.
According to a presidential decree seen by Radio Tamazuj this afternoon, the central bank governor was sacked on Wednesday.
Kiir replaced Othom Rago with Dier Tong Ngor.
The South Sudanese leader also appointed Albino Dak Othow as the first deputy governor of the bank after removing Dier Tong from the position.
The ongoing conflict has drained the oil-rich country of much-needed revenue generated from oil production.
