South Sudan cabinet on Friday passed a resolution banning all top government officials from using the national army (SPLA) as personal bodyguards effective Monday.

South Sudan cabinet on Friday passed a resolution banning all top government officials from using the national army (SPLA) as personal bodyguards effective Monday.

Information minister Michael Makuei announced on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation on Friday after the cabinet meeting that the order calls on all constitutional post holders to immediately return their SPLA bodyguards.

Makuei stated that the constitution allows police only to be used for personal protection.
