South Sudan’s cabinet on Friday gave its approval for establishment of a new university college for defense to provide courses in security and other relevant fields in the country.

A meeting of the cabinet in Juba, presided over by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, paved way for establishment of a new higher learning institution namely National University Defense College (NUDC), a spokesman of the government said.

Information Minister Michael Makuei said the university college for defense will be created in three phases. “The first phase will start with establishment of institutions connected with security and defense, and thereafter it will move to the second phase to establish some of the faculties. The third phase will be when it will be a full-fledged university operating in South Sudan,” he said.

He pointed out that the project was proposed by the defense minister Kuol Manyang.

The cost of the proposed project was not announced.
