The Elections Committee of the South Sudan Bar Association has released the official timetable for the upcoming presidential candidacy process within the Bar Association.

During a press conference held on Monday in Juba, James Faulino Lado, Chairman of the Elections Commission, announced the initiation of the timetable for nominations from individuals interested in running for the presidency of the Bar Association.

Lado urged lawyers to refer to the courts to access the election timetable. He emphasized that the timetable will be accessible from Tuesday, the 16th of January, to the 26th of February. This period will cover the publication of lists containing the names of licensed lawyers who have renewed their licenses.

Lado stated, “Any lawyer who was licensed up until the end of last year, 2023, will have their name included in the candidacy process.”

He shared the list and urged lawyers at both the capital and state levels to visit the courts during official working hours, as the schedule will be unveiled in the courts of Juba.

The sequence will commence with the district court, followed by the Kator Court, Mobile Court, and Traffic Court in the property, and subsequently, the Gudele Court. The schedule will be prominently displayed on bulletin boards.

Lado emphasized that the Election Commission has commenced its designated tasks. Following the publication of the lists, there will be a three-day period for appeals.

“Following the appeals period, decisions will be made on those appeals. Subsequently, the final lists, containing the electoral numbers, will be published,” stated Lado.

He clarified that this process will be succeeded by a nomination stage for the elections pertaining to the union’s presidency, vice-presidency, and central committee. Lado noted, “Anyone aspiring to run must obtain a form from the committee’s office during official working hours.”
