The Bank of South Sudan gave two million US dollars to the Abyei Area Administration to supply markets with essential goods needed by citizens, a local official told Radio Tamazuj.

Abyei Area Finance Minister Achuil Akol said the decision was taken in the annual meeting of the Governors’ Forum in which two million US dollars were approved for Abyei area and the newly established Pibor Administration each.

“The two administrations were given 2 million dollars each, but on condition of distributing such amounts in an organized and wise way such that essential goods can be supplied to markets,” he said.

He further said the money was meant for importation of commodities to meet the needs of citizens in those two areas. He disclosed that they have now started to announce bidding for companies that can deliver the needed goods.

Abyei citizens previously complained about rising prices of commodities due to bad conditions of roads linking the disputed territory with the other states of South Sudan.
