South Sudan’s Minister of Finance has announced the establishment of the Agricultural and Irrigation Company and Minerals Development Corporation.
Dr. Bak Barnaba Chol made this momentous announcement during the National Economic Forum in Juba that ended on Friday.
In his address, Dr. Chol said: “Today, I have the honour to announce the establishment of the South Sudan Agricultural and Irrigation Company, which will bear the responsibility of nurturing agriculture and enhancing our nation’s production capacity. This initiative, in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Agricultural Bank of South Sudan, will collaborate tirelessly to fortify this sector. This determination and the directives stem directly from His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit.”
Dr. Chol went on to emphasize the significance of the South Sudan Minerals Development Corporation in advancing the mining sector.
He remarked, “The government will continue to regulate the mining sector and open doors for multinational corporations to invest in this sector,” he said.
“I have the honour to launch the South Sudan Minerals Development Cooperation. This entity will partner with interested partners to explore trade and support the development of the mineral sector together with the Ministry of Mining and other relevant institutions,” he explained.
These initiatives mark a critical turning point in South Sudan’s economy.
