South Sudan’s minister of agriculture and food security, Onyoti Adigo Nyikwac, has urged the people of South Sudan to stop the ongoing conflict and embark on agriculture.

South Sudan’s minister of agriculture and food security, Onyoti Adigo Nyikwac, has urged the people of South Sudan to stop the ongoing conflict and embark on agriculture.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj during a food security conference in Aweil town last week, Onyoti said the current civil war has affected the country’s economy.

He further said famine has claimed many lives and forced a large number of South Sudanese to seek refuge in Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and other countries.

The official appreciated all humanitarian organizations operating in South Sudan. “In South Sudan there is hunger, all the areas are affected by hunger.  In fact there is support coming from NGOs because the government contribution to the citizens is little,” he said.

The minister stressed that the people of South Sudan need to prioritize agriculture.
