South Kordofan to resettle 179 families to Abu Kershola

South Kordofan state officials said they plan to resettle 179 families to their areas of origin in the Shamshaqa area of the Abu Karshola locality.

South Kordofan state officials said they plan to resettle 179 families to their areas of origin in the Shamshaqa area of the Abu Karshola locality.

Ahmed Hassan Badawi, who heads the repatriation and resettlement commission, told Radio Tamazuj that they have been working with indigenous organizations and other groups to prepare a reception for the people. They were displaced to Khartoum and Al Gazira states during earlier fighting.

The returning families will receive shelter, humanitarian assistance and basis services, he said.

They also rolled out a plan for voluntary repatriation of local residents living in all localities to South Kordofan, though he said they would be unable to assist conflict-affected people in areas controlled by the SPLA-North until a peace agreement is signed.
