The Governor of Sudan’s South Kordofan state Adam Al Fekki said that over 200 SPLA-North rebels have surrendered to the government in the state recently.

The top state official also dismissed claims that there were local residents at the areas where clashes erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and SPLA-North rebels last week.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, El Fekki said a considerable number of local citizens fled from clashes to Kadugli town. He did not provide further details about the number of the new arrivals.

“Those areas of Angarto and Geneziya are deserted there are no citizens living there because they were military zones” he said.

The governor said the newcomers do not need IDP camps in Kadugli town. El Fekki predicted that some citizens fled to the rebel-controlled areas.
