The Emergency Room in South Khartoum has voiced fears about the dire situation and suffering of kidney patients at the dialysis center at Bashayer Hospital in the Sudanese capital.
Saad Al-Deen Omar, a member of the South Khartoum Emergency Room, told Radio Tamazuj that the hospital covers three centers (Bashayer Center, Soba Center, and Al-Sahafa Center).
He said part of the facility’s challenges stem from power outages and water shortages, exacerbating the suffering of patients.
“The kidney patients are suffering greatly and they have to purchase fuel and water to run the hospital to receive treatment,” he said. “The price of a barrel of water has reached 10,000 Sudanese Pounds and the patients pay money to the doctors and cleaners to receive healthcare services and this has made dialysis operations extremely difficult.”
Omar appealed to the Federal Ministry of Health to urgently intervene by providing the necessary medications for dialysis. He also urged international organizations to equally step in to save the situation.
He explained that the Emergency Room is making every effort to provide water and electricity, but the disruption of the communication network has made the situation more difficult for them to offer certain essential services.
“The dialysis center at Bashayer Hospital is the only center that operates in the Khartoum locality,” Omar warned. “Its closure is akin to a slow death for kidney patients in Khartoum.”
