Local farmers in the South Darfur state locality of Katella have warned camel herders to move away from the host community’s agricultural land to avoid future conflicts.

Mudawi Mohamed Dou Al Beit, a local farmer in Katella, told Radio Tamazuj that this year’s agricultural season looks promising, but farmers are concerned that the camels could destroy their crops.

“The farmers are advising the herders of camels to give us a chance until we harvest the crop,” he said. “Any disruption at this time will cause problems between the farmers and the pastoralists.”

Katella Locality Commissioner Al Zein Omar Abdel-Mullah had formed a committee to secure the agricultural season and has deployed forces to maintain security during the coming months.
