South Darfur governor imposes emergency laws in Nyala

The Governor of Sudan’s South Darfur State issued an order on Tuesday imposing emergency measures, in a bid to curb insecurity in the capital Nyala.

General Adam Mahmoud Jarelnabi banned the movement of vehicles without number plates, tinted glass windows even on government vehicles without a permit issued by the authorities concerned, besides the firing of guns in the air at all occasions.

Wearing of a turban covering the face is also forbidden, as well as carrying guns in civilian attire, sources told Radio Tamazuj yesterday.

Movement of motorcycles is also restricted between 7 pm and 7 am.

The state authorities explained that the measures were taken as the security situation has worsened in the capital Nyala.

A special prosecution department and court have already been established to try whoever violates the emergency laws, according to the state government.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor Mahdi Bush claimed that they have obtained new information about an abducted employee of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), saying he will be released soon.

The government official reassured the people that the employee is in a good mental and physical condition.
