South Darfur governor calls for tribes to reconcile

Officials in Sudan’s South Darfur state say forces have intervened to create a buffer zone between two feuding tribes in the region.

The Fallata and Salamat groups have been involved in several clashes in the past week. Officials say at least 54 people were killed and 29 wounded during fighting last week in the Anadif and Asalya areas.

Acting State Governor Al Tayib Hamad Aburaida said in a press statement that the situation has now returned to normal and efforts are underway to get the two groups to reconcile. He directed native administration leaders to speed up the process.
