Several conflict-displaced civilians from South Darfur State who are currently living in East Darfur State have participated in a cultural event organized in El Daien town, the capital of East Darfur State.

The conflict-displaced civilians participated in the event with songs, theater, and poetry.

Salah Kurdman, a member of the cultural event’s organizing committee, told Radio Tamazuj Sunday that the aim of the participation of the displaced people from the city of Nyala is to reduce the psychological pressure on them after the devastating conflict that forced them to flee their homes in Nyala, South Darfur State.

“We managed to participate in the event, and our participation was outstanding. It has reduced the pressure we have been going through since the war erupted in South Darfur State,” Kurdman said.” Most of the residents of Nyala came and attended the event, and we plan to organize the event regularly because it helps.”

For her part, Asawer Abu Abdul Rahman said she was happy to attend the cultural event and listen to music after six months of terror and the sounds of machine guns and cannons.

“The cultural event is an excellent psychosocial support program for those of us from a war situation in Nyala. I am active in theater, and during my participation, I met all the people I knew at the event. It is my first day to come to the cultural club, and after I came, I felt thrilled,” she said.

Motasim Adam Fadul said: “My participation in these activities was a healing for me after months of psychological pressure due to the ongoing war in the city of Nyala.”

He added, “The cultural event has helped me and reduced some psychological effects due to the conflict we witnessed in Nyala town. We came to El Daein to seek refuge, and it is also a very near to South Darfur.”

Fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted on April 15 over tensions linked to a planned transition to civilian rule. It has devastated the capital Khartoum and sparked ethnically driven attacks in the Darfur region.

After nearly six months of fighting, an estimated 9,000 people have been killed and another 5.6 million forced to flee their homes, according to the United Nations.
