Authorities in Sudan’s South Darfur state announced that they face a food gap of nearly 228,000 tons of grains in the state, according to a report the agriculture ministry tabled before the state legislative assembly.
The chairperson of the specialized committee of Agriculture and Engineering Affairs in the parliament Mohamed Amin Abuja stated the food gap is a significant problem. He emphasized the importance of early response to address the looming food deficit so as to avoid possible disastrous consequences in the future.
In his remarks to the press on Sunday during the discussion of the report by the specialized committee, Abuja called on the state executive to prepare for the farming season this year by providing agricultural inputs and funding to the farmers.
The report was tabled before the South Darfur Legislative Assembly and then referred to the Agriculture Committee for finetuning and more discussion.
