Three people, including a child, were killed, and more than 11 others were injured in an airstrike conducted by the Sudanese army on Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, on Wednesday evening.

Sudanese military aircraft targeted various service institutions in the state, including the Manaa Medical Clinic, Shifakcare Clinic, the ground station building for electricity, the Sudanese Telecommunications Company (Sudatel), and the historic Nyala Mosque.

Dr. Ibrahim Hafez, the medical director of Nyala Hospital, told Radio Tamazuj that they received four cases at the hospital. These included the tragic death of a 14-month-old baby and injuries to the child’s mother, grandmother, and an adult, with two of them in serious condition.

Dr. Mohammed, the emergency physician at Turkish Nyala Hospital, disclosed that the hospital has received six cases of infection resulting from recent airstrikes. Among them, two cases were admitted to the orthopaedic ward, and another case required brain and nerve repair.

Jadallah Abdel Rahim, a resident of Nyala , expressed concern about the shift in the conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, evolving into a broader war affecting the Sudanese homeland. He questioned the destruction of service institutions crucial for the well-being of the Sudanese people.

The military airstrikes carried out by aircraft on Wednesday evening marked the most intense attack since December of the previous year.

Sudan has been witnessing deadly clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF since April 15, 2023. More than 12,000 people had been killed in the fighting, according to a statement by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in December last year.
