South Africa Vice President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Juba Wednesday morning to meet with South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Ramaphosa held consultations with the president on the challenges and hindrances to the progress of the stalled peace talks in Addis Ababa.
The South African vice president was received by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of National Security Isaac Mamur at Juba Airport Wednesday morning.
Ramaphosa, a possible frontrunner as the future chair of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress party, was not received by his counterpart Wani Igga because the South Sudanese vice president was outside the country.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Barnaba Marial Benjamin was supposed to receive him instead, but failed to come to the airport.
There were no SSTV or press from the office of the president present at his arrival.
The undersecretary refused to give a statement to the press because SSTV was not present.
