South Africa’s Deputy President David Mabusa has confirmed his country’s support for the South Sudan peace agreement signed by the parties.

South Africa's Deputy President David Mabusa has confirmed his country's support for the South Sudan peace agreement signed by the parties.

In a press statement following his meeting with President Salva Kiir on Monday, David said the purpose of the visit to South Sudan was to support the peace agreement and to continue the efforts of former Special Envoy and current South African President Cyril Ramaposa to facilitate peace in South Sudan.

He said that his meetings with all parties to the peace agreement in Juba showed the desire of the parties to implement the new agreement in the spirit of peace. "The meetings were a kind of optimism and the region's support for this agreement," he said.

The vice president concluded his two-day visit to South Sudan on Monday, where he is expected to meet with the leaders of Sudan, Kenya and Uganda during his visit to the region to discuss ways to achieve peace in South Sudan.
