Son of Wonduruba paramount chief shot dead

The younger son of Wonduruba Paramount Chief Gordon Sasa was shot dead on Thursday afternoon in Wonduruba Centre, according to local sources.

A witness speaking on Thusday afternoon said that he saw SPLA forces traveling from Lainya open fire as they neared Wonduruba, which may have caused the death of the chief's son.

“I was on the road then I saw two SPLA Land Cruisers travelling from the direction of Lainya towards Wonduruba. As they arrived near Tuli hills they started shooting from the hills until they reached to the centre. We do not know who they were shooting at. Tuli hill is just near Wonduruba Centre along Lainya road,” he said.

But the source said he did not know for sure how the chief's son was killed. A local source close to the family of the deceased who was called Lomeling said that he is survived by a wife and two children.

Many people fled from earlier violence in Wonduruba and have not returned. Recent shootings are discouraging people from returning, said one resident. “People are now afraid,” he said.

The source further alleged that four people were arrested by SPLA forces in Wonduruba Centre early this week, including a father and his three children. “They were arrested while trying to go to the bushes to hide. The arrested are still under the custody of the SPLA forces in Wonduruba. The person [father] arrested is called Loku Yubi,” the sources added.
