Citizens and members of rights bodies in Renk County of Upper Nile state called for respect of human rights in South Sudan during Human Rights Day celebrations yesterday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several citizens expressed concern about human rights status in South Sudan. They said there is no respect for human rights in the country.

The celebrations were organized by the UNMISS office for human rights and took place at Renk Stadium. However, few people showed up.

A representative of the UNMISS human rights office in Renk said the low turnout was due to the fact that most local residents had fled the area due to armed conflict. He called on South Sudanese communities to love each other so that peace can prevail.
