A man was shot dead and another injured on Saturday in Bor town of South Sudan’s Jonglei State, a police official said.
Yousif Abdalla Garang, the police commissioner in Jonglei told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred on Saturday night when a South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) soldier opened fire at young men who were involved in a fight, killing one while another sustained gunshot wounds.
Abdalla said the incident took place at Bor’s Referendum neighborhood.
“There was a brawl among some men at 7 PM. The officer, a bodyguard to an army general in the neighborhood, then shot at those at the scene. We do not know what prompted him to shoot,” Abdalla explained.
The police official pointed out that the assailant is still at large, but a search has been initiated, terming the incident as isolated while stressing that Bor town is calm.
