A government soldier committed suicide in Pibor town of South Sudan’s Boma State on Wednesday, a local official said.

A government soldier committed suicide in Pibor town of South Sudan’s Boma State on Wednesday, a local official said.

Bazuka Odol Oman the deputy mayor of Pibor town told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the deceased, a 29-year-old South Sudan People's Defense Forces (SSPDF) soldier whose name is withheld shot himself to death near the market in Pibor.

“Security is good in Pibor town. But yesterday, a soldier fired two bullets into the air and then shot himself to death on a road near the market. The soldier was coming from the barrack,” he said.

Odol said the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
