Shock and fear gripped residents of Torit town in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State when a 56-year-old man hanged himself on Sunday.
Major Kleopus Takuru, the state police spokesperson, identified the deceased as Captain Tilla Paulino Phillip, a member of the army’s disabled unit.
“The incident happened at around 2:45 pm. The information came that someone hanged himself and we sent an officer to the scene, only to find that the late had died,” he explained.
According to the police officer, investigations showed that the deceased had prior to committing suicide quarrelled with his wife.
John Oromo, a relative, also admitted that the deceased had disagreements with his wife, but never shared his problems with relatives.
“For sure he [Tilla] had quarrelled with his wife and this woman is available. She had gone to the garden as if it was God’s plans and upon returning, she found the information,” he said.
This is the fifth suicide case reported in the state in just two months.
Earlier this month, a man hanged himself in a forest around Ibalany residential area Torit town, days after he reportedly went missing.
