Soldier arrested for killing two security guards of army general in Juba

A South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) member has been arrested for killing two security guards of a senior army general in the capital Juba on Wednesday morning, police said.

A South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) member has been arrested for killing two security guards of a senior army general in the capital Juba on Wednesday morning, police said.

The incident occurred at Thongpiny residential area.

Police Spokesman Daniel Justin told Radio Tamazuj that an SSPDF soldier shot and killed two security guards who were posted outside the residence of a senior army general at Thongpiny area.

The police officer identified the prime suspect as Sgt. Mark Madeng Goch, a member of the Ground Forces.

“The prime suspect went and attacked the residence of the Director of Officers Affairs near Nimule Resort Hotel. The prime suspect was riding a motorcycle when he opened fire on the two security guards. After the shooting incident, Madeng escaped but our forces managed to arrest him,” Daniel explained.  

According to the police spokesperson, the motive behind the killing remains unclear and that the investigation is underway.
