Local authorities in Rwoto County in South Sudan’s Kapoeta state are left furious after solar panels generating power for MTN Company were taken by unknown people on 22 December.
Twoto County Commissioner Geoffrey Lokwam told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that two solar panels belonging to MTN Telecommunication Company were stolen in the area just before Christmas.
He pointed out that no arrests have been made so far. “My community has no knowledge about these two solar panels. I suspected the thieves came from Torit, because people here have no knowledge of how to use those items,” he said.
The local official said that the management of MTN Company has opened a case with the police on the matter and that other solar panels are now under government protection in the county.
Radio Tamazuj could not reach MTN officials in the area to comment on the matter.
