Hasab Al-Nabi Mahmoud Hasab al-Nabi, a prominent figure in the newly formed Sudan Liberation Movement/Democratic Movement, is urging leaders of the Sudanese armed forces and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces to immediately halt the ongoing war.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Hasab al-Nabi emphasized that the war situation is gaining control over Sudan and must be stopped promptly to avert a potential national disaster.

He explained that there is a stubborn stance on both sides of the conflict, accusing the National Congress of the former regime of obstructing negotiations and peace initiatives led by the international community and IGAD to bring an end to the hostilities.

Al-Nabi warned of the escalating impact, stating, “If this war does not come to a halt, it could spread to many areas, reaching Gezira State, White Nile State, and continuing in other regions.”

The Sudanese politician underscored the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for immediate action to prevent further escalation and potential humanitarian crises in multiple states.

“Sudan is currently facing a severe crisis, with the number of displaced people and refugees exceeding 15 million Sudanese, in addition to those displaced in Darfur and the Nuba Mountains,” Hasab el Nabi emphasized.

He mentioned that their collaboration extends to the Civil Forces Bloc, led by Dr. Abdullah Hamdok, and the broader Sudanese population advocating for an immediate end to the war.

Hasab el Nabi urged all armed movement forces that previously declared support for the army to withdraw, signalling a call for de-escalation.

Expressing concern about the international community’s distancing from Sudanese affairs, particularly in Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, the Blue Nile, and other regions, he remarked, “It appears that the international community has its own priorities.”

Sudan spiralled into war after soaring tensions between army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF commander General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo exploded into open fighting in mid-April.

The war broke out due to disagreements over plans for a political transition and the integration of the RSF into the army, four years after former ruler Omar al-Bashir was deposed in an uprising.
