At least six SPLA soldiers have been wounded in an attack in Pariang County in South Sudan’s Unity State on Sunday morning, a local official announced.
Monylang Manyiel, Pariang County Commissioner, accused forces loyal to SPLA-In Opposition General Johnson Olony of attacking a government SPLA garrison in the county.
The commissioner said the rebel force crossed from Upper Nile State to Unity State to carry out the attack. He claimed government troops repulsed the attackers killing several rebel fighters.
Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach rebel officials to comment on Manyiel’s claims.
In mid-May, Olony defected to the armed opposition and briefly controlled the Upper Nile state capital Malakal.
