At least six people were killed and nine others wounded after a fuel tanker exploded at Sherikaat residential area in the capital Juba on Sunday evening.

Eyewitnesses told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the tanker veered off the main road and rammed into shops at the roadside.

Daniel Justin Boula, Spokesperson of South Sudan Police Service, confirmed that at least six people were confirmed dead and nine others wounded. He pointed out that they are still investigating the incident.

Boula noted that fire brigade officers and the Red Cross managed to contain the incident. Reportedly, the explosion caused panic and fear among local residents in Sherikaat subusurb.
