Six measles cases confirmed in Abyei

Health authorities in the disputed Abyei region said they have confirmed six cases of measles in the area and 76 other cases are suspected measles since last month.

Nyanawut Mayen Kuol, Minister of Health in Abyei, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that they are investigating the suspected cases.

Nyanawut however noted that measures are in place to control the disease in the area, adding that a team has been formed to monitor the health situation.

The government official pointed out that they plan to vaccinate children who are under five years old, as they are the most vulnerable to the disease.

Measles is a contagious disease its symptoms include fever, cough and inflamed eyes.
