Six gang-rape suspects still under investigation in Wau

Six people arrested on suspicion of involvement in two separate gang-rape cases in Wau town of Western Bahr el Ghazal last month are still in detention and under investigation, according to a senior police official.

Six people arrested on suspicion of involvement in two separate gang-rape cases in Wau town of Western Bahr el Ghazal last month are still in detention and under investigation, according to a senior police official.

In early November, a 29-year-old woman died allegedly after being gang-raped by seven men at Hai Dinka, while a 14-year old girl was found dead after also being gang-raped in a separate incident at Hai Mashru Ruz.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the northern sector police chief in Wau James Ngo said that about eight arrested suspects have been released on bail until the charges against them are canceled.

James further said they are now investigating 3 out of 11 arrested suspects in connection with the rape case at Hai Dinka on 3 November.

He added that another 3 suspects are also being accused on charges of the gang-rape case that occurred at Mashruo Ruz.

He said that the investigations will be completed so that the six suspects can be taken to the court.
