Security forces on Thursday arrested six people on charges of looting cattle in Southern Liech State, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the state information minister, Nyuon Joseph Gatliah said the six people looted cows and caused instability in the area.
The government official said the six suspects, allegedly led by a man identified as Chuol Malual Tap, were arrested by security forces in Robkuai County.
"These criminals stole more than 3,000 heads of cattle in Rubkuai, according to reports provided by the commissioner,” he explained.
Nyuon further said investigations are ongoing and all the six suspects would be tried.
Over 65 percent of the population in South Sudan relies on livestock for their survival. Cattle are used not only for milk and meat, but to pay dowry to the bride’s family before a marriage in many parts of the country.
