Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) officials have announced a shortage of malaria medication and other drugs in the semi-autonomous area.

GPAA Minister of Health James Sasha told Radio Tamazuj the government had run out of medicine in Gumbruk, Likuangule, Gobal, Berteb and Pchalla North counties. This is especially dangerous, he said, because at least 70 percent of cases being received in health facilities have malaria.

An additional 18 healthcare centers don’t have storage facilities for medicine.

He said the national ministry of health had pledged to carry out a survey to determine needs of medicines in the area, but it has not yet happened.
