There is a shortage of blood supplies at the Juba Military Hospital where many wounded soldiers are receiving medical treatment due to the five days of fighting in Juba last week.
Lack of the blood is affecting surgery operations of the wounded soldiers, according to the Director of the Juba Military Hospital Doctor Brig. Koul Deng.
The director said Juba Military Hospital received blood donation from Juba Teaching Hospital.
“Our blood bank is empty,” he said.
Heavy fighting erupted in Juba between bodyguards of First Vice President Riek Machar and soldiers loyal to President Salva Kiir on 8 July, after a smaller clash the previous night.
Many people were reported killed, houses and UN warehouses also looted. A medical source at Juba Military Hospital last week estimated the death toll from both sides at about 600.
