Shops open in Yei, but residents say fearful of soldiers

Shops in Yei town opened Tuesday and Wednesday and people were moving on the streets but even up until Wednesday morning residents say they are afraid because of the presence of SPLA forces in the town.

Shops in Yei town opened Tuesday and Wednesday and people were moving on the streets but even up until Wednesday morning residents say they are afraid because of the presence of SPLA forces in the town.

Residents who spoke to Radio Tamazuj said SPLA soldiers could be seen in the town moving well-armed sitting in tea places causing fear among the public. One shooting was reported Tuesday morning along the Kaya road when a soldier allegedly fired on youths, but no one washurt.

Residents said the SPLA who shot at the youth was shortly arrested by SPLA colleagues.  

Yesterday Radio Tamazuj reported that people were leaving the town for outlying villages but officials are calling on them to return home. Some people have since come back while others have left.
