A gunman went on a rampage at Wau Hospital in Western Bahr al Ghazal State of South Sudan at 1:20 p.m.
At least one person was killed including a surgeon, according to a neighbor of one of the victims who said that the slain surgeon called Carlo was director of operations at the hospital.
Another two people at least were seriously wounded.
The killer is rumoured to have begun making threats yesterday after his wife died in childbirth together with the baby. Owing to these death threats police detained him yesterday, but they released him today.
Dr. Elia James, a physician at St. Daniel Comboni Hospital, confirmed the killing of Dr. Carlo. He said that he witnessed the incident and he is afraid that the killer will seek to kill more doctors.
The killer is reportedly still at large.
Correction, 6:30 p.m.: An earlier version of this post stated that two people were killed. It is only confirmed at this point that one person was killed in the shooting.
