Prominent politicians from the Shilluk tribe in Juba said they fully back the national dialogue initiative announced by President Salva Kiir in December last year for the sake of peace in the country, read a statement by the leaders.

The statement seen by Radio Tamazuj bears names and signatures of the Speaker of the Council of States Joseph Bol Chan, Minister of Mining Gabriel Thokuj, Minister of Roads Rebecca Joshua, including the two governors of Fashoda and Central Upper Nile states.

The leaders acknowledged that the establishment of Central Upper Nile state is the only way to resolve disputes between the Dinka and the Shilluk tribes in Upper Nile state, calling on all parties to resolve all disputes through dialogue.

The statement also called on the UN and other aid agencies to urgently provide aid assistance to the needy people of Fashoda and Central Upper Nile states.

Last week, the Shilluk King Kwongo Dak Padiet accused the government of carrying out what he termed as “ethnic cleansing against his people” in Wau Shilluk and its surrounded areas.
