Shilluk council in Khartoum wants unity government dissolved

Members of the Chollo (Shilluk) Community Council in Khartoum have called for the dissolution of President Kiir’s citing war crimes allegedly committed against Chollo tribe in Upper Nile.

Members of the Chollo (Shilluk) Community Council in Khartoum have called for the dissolution of President Kiir’s citing war crimes allegedly committed against Chollo tribe in Upper Nile.

In a statement addressed to the IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan, Ismail Wais, the council demanded that the current transitional government be dissolved and a new five-year transitional government is formed without President Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar.

The group in the statement dated 10 October stressed that the ongoing civil war must be brought to an end by all means though intervention of the United Nations, African Union and the East African regional bloc IGAD.

The tribal council called for cancellation of President Kiir’s order creating more states in South Sudan and return to 10 states with borders as of 1956. This will give back Chollo grabbed land on both sides of the White Nile and the Sobat rivers,” partly reads the statement.

This redress of grievances may slowly restore the broken trust between the neighbouring tribes of Chollo and Dinka Apadang,” adds the statement.

The tribal advisory group called for establishment a neutral body that will be accepted by all parties to carry out the reconciliation process in order to restore the broken relationship between warring communities in the country.

The statement bears the signature of Samson Oyay Awin, chairman of the Chollo Council in Khartoum.
