The chairperson of the Shilluk Intellectuals Committee in Juba says they have submitted necessary documents identifying local and international borders in Upper Nile region to the Technical Boundary Commission (TBC) last week.
Different communities in the greater Upper Nile region have border disputes amongst themselves.
Professor Joshua Otor told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the documents detail borders of the Shilluk community dating back to 1/1/1956.
“Resolving border problems in South Sudan will ensure the return of citizens to their areas of origin by the 1956 borders to avoid clan conflicts. These conflicts never existed before but they are now new problems," he said.
The TBC constituted in December in accordance to the revitalized peace agreement is charged with the responsibility to define and demarcate community borders of South Sudan as they stood on January 1, 1956, and disputed areas in the country.
Upon completing its work, the Committee is expected to present its report including dissenting views, if any, to IGAD mediation.
