Shelling of northernmost South Sudan town

Renk town in northern Upper Nile State this evening came under renewed artillery fire by opposition forces based on the west bank of the Nile.

Several sources within the city told Radio Tamazuj that the shelling came from across the opposite side of the river, territory controlled by the SPLA-IO faction, beginning at about 7:00 this evening.

One of the bombs landed on the home of a citizen in Al Sarayat neighborhood and another hit the stadium. Residents fled indoors, according to the same sources. The city has experienced repeated artillery attacks in recent months, forcing many citizens to flee to the border areas with Sudan.
