Seven killed in inter-communal conflict in East Darfur

At least seven people were killed on Saturday when the Maalia and Rizeigat tribes clashed in Sudan’s East Darfur State.

At least seven people were killed on Saturday when the Maalia and Rizeigat tribes clashed in Sudan’s East Darfur State.

Hamad Mohamed Al-Bushra, , a Maalia tribal leader, Radio Tamzuj on Sunday that some members of the Rizeigat community stole over 100 heads of cattle from the Maalia community.

“Members of the Maalia tribe started pursuing those thieves and on the way they clashed and two people from the Maalia tribe and five from the Rizeigat were killed. They clashed between Khamsaat and Shibeka. The government came and intervened,” he said.

The two communities have been involved in communal clashes that have led to the killing of dozens of people from both communities despite efforts by the Sudanese government to bring an end to it.
