Sese and Bashir meet; discuss DDPD and transformation of LJM

The Sudanese President, Omer Al Bashir, has met with Tijani Sese, Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) and leader of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) on Thursday, to discuss matters of concern over the region.

President Al Bashir gave directives for “taking the necessary measures to confront security threats in Darfur resulting from tribal disputes and pockets of non-signatory armed movements in the region”.

In a press statement to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) following his meeting with Al Bashir, Sese said that they had discussed the way forward to implementing the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD). The situation in the five states of the Darfur region, efforts made to end tribal disputes in the region, developmental issues, and security for the displaced, were also on the agenda.

Sese also said that he briefed the President on the request of the LJM – currently a Darfuri armed group – to be transformed into a political party and join the government and Sese said that the President accepted the request.
