Sennar farmers challenge governor in High Appeal Court

Farmers in Sudan’s Sennar State have reportedly rejected the implementation of a court decision to aside 10 per cent of the total rainy-season cultivable area in order to open up paths for nomads and the resettlement of nomads from South Sudan.

Farmers in Sudan’s Sennar State have reportedly rejected the implementation of a court decision to aside 10 per cent of the total rainy-season cultivable area in order to open up paths for nomads and the resettlement of nomads from South Sudan.

In April, an Appeal Court upheld a decision by the governor to deduct 10% of land from agricultural projects.

Farmer’s representative Salah Ahmed al-Nur said in a press statement in Khartoum that they had challenged the decision in a high appeal court in Al Jazira State.

So we are still waiting for the Appeal Court because the decision by the governor is rejected by the farmers,” he said.

The dispute dates to May 2014 when farmers disagreed with local authorities over the decision.
