Sennar court upholds decision to deduct 10% of farms

An Appeals Court in Sudan’s Sennar state upheld a decision by the governor to deduct 10% of land from agricultural projects to open up corridors for Sudanese nomads returning from South Sudan.

The Thursday sitting was presided over by Judge Ali Ahmed Hamid. The court decided to cancel an appeal filed by farmer’s representative Salah Ahmed al-Nur against the decision.

The dispute dates to May 2014 when farmers disagreed with local authorities in the state over the decision to reduce irrigated fields that year by 10%.
