A special tribunal in Sinja town in Sudan’s Sennar State set up for the trial of suspected members of the Sudan People Liberation Army-North began hearing of defence witnesses on Wednesday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, lawyer Al Tijani Hassan, a member of the Sudanese Organization for the Defence of Rights and Freedoms, noted that most of 78 accused do not have defence witnesses.
The 78 suspects in detention face charges under articles 21, 50 and 51 of the penal code and article 6 of anti-terrorism law.
The lawyer expressed concern due to the fact the charges against the accused could result in death sentences or life imprisonment.
